A remote team is, “a group of people with a common goal, separated by distance and/or time and connected by technology,” according to Geerd Hofstede in his book, “The Virtual Team”. Add to that the fact that each team member comes from a different part of the planet and you have a global remote team.
Global remote teams often struggle with misunderstandings, mistrust, lack of identity and how to deal with conflict.
The aim of the global remote teams course
During this course we aim to train business people who work in a multicultural, virtual team. That is to say, teams who usually do not meet face-to-face and yet need to be in contact often to reach their objectives. This course looks at the difficulty of communicating across technology, using email, telephone conferences, virtual meeting techniques such as ZOOM or Teams and virtual conferences where members are in different locations.
We examine ways of improving communication between team members, whether it be listening techniques, improving email techniques and examining our own verbal communication compared to the non-verbal.
